Presidential George Bush Library in College Station

I was looking which museums to visit while I am here in Navasota. And this is what I found. You can't get away from the border wall in one way or an other...........

A few weeks ago, when we had just arrived

we were introduced to the City Council and made the local newspaper.
The paper: The Examiner gets delivered by mail once a week.

Cotton Gin Museum in Burton, Tx

This was a very cool visit. First off, I stopped at a cute little lunch place across the street from the museum to have a sandwich, which was lovely and handmade. What can be better - served with my favorite pickles.

Then I had time to spare, drove around, ended up at the Peeka Ranch where they have alpacas. But it wasn't open to the public nor did I see any animals.

After a bit more browsing, shopping at a cute place in town, meeting an artist, I drove back to take a tour at the Cotten GIN. Can't say ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE TOUR!!!

It is the oldest operating cotton gin in America. Now that is impressive. As you can see from the pictures, very much worth a visit. Or better then the pictures.

Yesterday I went to Independence, Texas

This was once the biggest city in Texas with the birthplace of Baylor University.

It is amazing what I learn about Texas history. I am fascinated, can't stop visiting the small places around me. And with the Bluebonnets all around me, it is just amazing to be here and see the beauty in nature.

It has been a while since I posted from the Horlock House

I have been here now nearly 3 weeks and are happy to report that the transition is made. I have woven already the first two panels of my project. Only 4 or 5 more to come. Today I spend all day getting the warp ready and sleeping the reed. Tomorrow I will thread the loom. Each panel is 3 ft wide and 7.5 yard long. It shrinks to about 17 ft woven when taken off the loom.

It is truly a great privilege to be here and living in such a beautiful old house.

We had the gallery space set up by Saturday and actually opened up for visitors this weekend. Very few came but the weather was miserable. We might have to work a bit more on our advertising and marketing strategy. But everything in its time. 

Most of Saturday and Sunday were spent setting up the loom and this morning I started weaving. I have never worked so many hours uninterrupted on my weavings. What a luxury. Today I wove and worked in brakes, like a walk into downtown and later on to the library. I need to be kind to my body. This project requires many hours at the loom. It is very repetitious.

2nd day in residency

Today we decided to hang our artwork or at least start with it. I realized in order to use the hanging system, I had to have hangers on all my work. So it was time to make some introductions. First of all I went to the the weaving/spinning/knitting store to see how dangerously a small city like Navasota can be to an Addict like me. Yes, I was right. Then came the hardware store, where the assistant goes in the back to look for my weird metric screws I needed. And then he asked how many I needed. I shall return often.
This is how my night ended with time spent on my loom. I hope I can thread it tomorrow and start weaving soon.

first day in Navasota

I took these photos this morning when I went for my walk. How beautiful and see the large yard.
After cleaning up, sorting things out and putting them in their right places, I was able to start on my first project. I wound the warp and started threading it. It felt good to spent as much time as I needed for the project - that was the most important thing to do and I had uninterrupted time. What a luxury. Maybe it will get old and I won't focus as well as I did today. But for right now I am embracing it.
I did drive to Conroe to pick up my artwork. Tomorrow we will hang our artwork and it will look like a gallery. What a privilege. I feel very fortunate.
